First Week
Start of the adventure
Day 1
First day of university classes (but online). We had our fair share of technical problems: no audio but visible slide deck (that continued to move) and limits on participant capacity and time among other things. A lot of information to take in (all the course syllabi!) and trying to schedule everything through different platforms, but for now it seems to be okay.
Highlight: Another student was eating chicken (with camera on, purposefully) during one of the sessions
Day 2
Still have a lot of information to ingest. Something interesting to note is that so far, if a video call meeting has a chat function, the chat can get very active, just like O-Week. A lot can go down in the chat, especially when someone is unaware that they are unmuted
Highlight: Someone asked a WEEF TA to sing during a course’s introduction video call
Day 3
Physics lecture was very fast paced. Very fast. Very. Fast.
Highlight: Many forgetful math moments. Not a good thing
Day 4
Found the wonderful WEEF TAs! Patient, knowledgeable and friendly- make sure to ask them any questions you have! For us online, different WEEF TAs rotate throughout the day, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 6:30 pm. Physics, linear algebra, math, programming: everything is covered! I don’t know how it works in a normal school setting but this online format is quite helpful. You drop in, they add you to the queue and the next available TA can come help.
Highlight: First night of CCF!
Conclusion
As you can tell by the shortening descriptions, this first week has been a lot to adjust to. Hopefully the scheduling and time management works out!
Talk to you soon (hopefully).
